Tom & Dean
Full Throttle Roadhouse Review
Take in some of the turns in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains and then take a turn into Tom’s Place. Toms’ is a fun and friendly place just off I-75 at exit 293 near Cartersville, GA on Hwy 411.
Tom opened the place in the spring of 2004 and has already had their 1st anniversary party on April 16th. Tom Martin and his wife Dean will be married 24 years in 2005 and after owning a number of businesses, when Tom turned 60 he decided to open his own bar. He had to endure the usual banter of everyone telling him to enjoy his retirement and not to open a bar. Before the final decision was made, his friends would joke with him about how he enjoyed drinking and partying too much and saying he would always have to be there. As they warned, he is always there but he is enjoying life and the time he spends at the bar.

Tom and Dean enjoy a dance!
There’s quite a family atmosphere at Tom’s Place. If you want to get the real scoop on him, his parents, who are in their 80’s, have lunch there every Monday and Friday. His mother is quite a character and said she knows way too much to give any of the real dirt about Tom. She did share a yarn about having to go to school and sit in the back of the class just to keep an eye on him.
The regular lunch crowd will tell you that one of the best things on the menu is the Canadian Bacon and Sauerkraut Pizza. This is definitely a Tom original, created because he was held up by a snowstorm in Des Moines, Iowa. While he was going to college there, his friends and he had a favorite hangout, Babe’s Restaurant. One night at Babe’s, they received four feet of snow and could not make it back to college. Tom decided to make a pizza and, for whatever strange reason, Canadian bacon and sauerkraut was what ended up on the pizza. This became Tom’s signature pizza, and to this day everyone that tries it will eat it again.
On your next cruise through the foothills, check out Tom’s Place, “Where It’s Always 5 O’Clock”. If you’re old enough to remember the TV show “Cheers”, you will get that same feeling of being among close friends at Tom’s Place. There are pool tables and video games, as well as karaoke on Friday night and live music on Saturday night. Thursday night is Bike Night, and on Saturday afternoons there are biker specials. And with your Full Throttle VIP card, there’s always a 10% discount off food. On your first visit to Tom’s, if you’re on your bike, you can even get a free t-shirt.
Tom’s Place is at 2337 Hwy 411, exit 293 off I-75. For more information please call 770-386-7755
